Public Speaking & Performance Club for Kids
Lantern League formula is a powerful, fun and modern template that can be used all over the world to give young people magnificent, real life experiences of sharing their voice before a supportive audience (i.e. other club members).
WHY the name?
'Lantern' is the name we give to the power of our shine. Confidence is not something that can be taught, it is something that young people must feel for themselves. Our club ethos is FEEL it - OWN it - SPEAK it.
We teach kids how to FEEL it - OWN it - SPEAK it
FEEL their shine from within - The lantern light is located in the middle of the body (between the ribs) similar to the region known in Yoga as the 'solar plexus'. We show kids how to breath into their center and expand their feelings of confidence through an exercise affectionately known as Lantern Kung Fu.
OWN their ideas - Lantern League members are shown how to craft their ideas into a powerful speech using the S.P.I.L formula. But it doesn't stop there! At Lantern League we place a lot of focus on being super supportive audience members. This helps club members speak with conviction & purpose (and also helps young people experience the power of listening).
SPEAK their words with power and personality. During every club session there is a volunteer 'Shine Master'. This person is responsible for encouraging the speaker to enjoy themselves, be natural and shine their brightest. They do this by paying attention to when a speaker is starting to shrink. Their job is to stand up and silently encourage the speaker to shine by taking their palms out.
WHATS the AIM?
The purpose of Lantern League is to provide a platform for kids to speak, shine and grow their confidence. Lantern League brings the thoughts, ideas & self confidence of our future generation to LIFE!
Before Lantern League, I would never speak in front of an audience. Now look at me! Im 100% comfortable to be ME!
"Being a part of Lantern League is life changing. It is a place where young people can incubate ideas
and practice communicating powerfully to an open and supportive group. You can expect to develop a lasting
trust in your ability to speak, slam or sing freely to any audience"
Nathalie Brewer, Founder of Yellow Lantern & Lantern League
